Kickoff

So wildcats, who would have thought that when we walked into the gym today, that we would be entering the funeral for Kentucky State University (KSU)? A hilarious entry from some faculty, staff and students with a casket behind them representing KSU got the crowd off their feet.
The crowd became more lively when Michael Jackson (played by President Rivers) entered the building to perform his hit Thriller. Michael Jackson was not the only celebrity in the building for this “Valley Reunion” there were artist like George Clinton, The Supremes, Ike and Tina Turner, and Keith Sweat just to name a few.
With the cheerleaders on the sideline cheering, the dancers dancing and the band playing, the kickoff came to an end with everyone saying the alma mater.

This year's Homecoming Football game is expecting to break and attendance record even though the team don't have the best record in the Siac Fooball Conference, this year especially with a new couch which the fans are looking foward to a winning season this year. But their are alot of fans that are saying are the wildcats going to be griding out this year or they going to laying on the grid iron? But one of the main question that is being discussed among the Wildcats Football fans are who will walk away with the victory but whenever i a am ask this question, my answer is may the best team win and if thier is any die hard Football fans out their, bring it on.

A Parade to Remember

Homecoming this year for me, was completely different than the past homecomings here at Fort Valley State University. This year, I was a participant in FVSU’s parade, which has been the schools tradition for years. I was voted Miss Mass Communications and with this title, I participated in this years coronation and parade. I got up at 6:30 AM to make it to the location that I all homecoming participants had to be by 7:30 AM. The car I rented was a 2010 V6 Blue Mustang. I loved this car to death! My driver was my friend Carla, who loved the car as well.

Present at the parade was FVSU’s President, Dr. Larry Rivers and his wife Mrs. Rivers, Mayor John Stumbo, Peach County High School Marching Band, Macon High School Junior ROTC, Boys and Girls Club, Royal Court Organizations, etc. It was really nice to see my loved ones, people from the Mass Communications Department, personal friends, and Fort Valley community yelling my name as I drove by waving my right hand from side to side. This is a moment that I will never forget and I am so thankful to have experienced this my last year at FVSU!

Fireworks Show

When you think of fireworks you may think of Fourth of July, but at The Fort Valley State University we use fireworks in October, to celebrate Homecoming.

This was my first time attending the Fireworks Show in the Valley. My family and friends arrived to the Wildcat Stadium at 10:45pm because the stadium was where the Fireworks Show was being held. We arrived too early(Fireworks Show started at 11pm)and there was only 11 people sitting in the stands, but more people started to arrive at 11:00pm. The Fireworks Show did not start on time because they were waiting on the fire truck to arrive, it was very windy sitting in the stadium waiting for the show to start, but we ignored it by socializing and listening to the music that was being played by the people who were tailgating behind the stadium.

At 11:13pm the fireworks began, the sound from them made your ears pop and the colors that filled the sky were amazing.

The Fireworks Show should be on Sunday because that would be a nice way to end homecoming week, because some people like to go out on the town on Friday night.

Went to the source about the $1.50

The ticketing for the events was brought to the cashier's department attention. John Cagnina, Director of Student Financial Services said, "There is only one office that is suppose to receive the money on campus and that's the cashier's office, which I'm responsible for. All the money that they receive goes through the cashier's office".

Example: You are having an activity for your organization and it was for $5.00, so they will sell the ticket on your behalf, collect the money at the event, and deposit the money in whatever account you have for your organization (you have to fill out a form call Fort Valley State University Agency Agreement, so they know what the name and number is to your account), minus the $1.50 for their service.

If you don't use their service, you can't have your event. According to Kevin Howard, CPA,Comptroller, you don't have an option, because it's the university responsibility to track all activities on campus.

The tickets that the cashier's department print out for all the organizations event, has a code on the back, so no one can make their own copy, plus the code is to keep track of how many people came to the event, so when the event is held next year, you know what to expect.

All tickets are now online to buy, (www.wildcatticketoffice.com) because of their new system. According to John Cagnina, it will better promote all the organization activities.

Now that you know the facts, do you think it's fair that the cashier's office is taking $1.50 from each ticket that the organizations sale?

Cults, Sects

Throughout history, various sects and cults have had negative connotations attached to them because of their extreme view points on religious beliefs and practices. According to Religious Tolerance. Org, a sect is a small religious group that is a result of an established religion or domination. An example of such religious sects would be the United Nuwaubian Nation of Moors of Putnam County, Georgia. Originated in Brooklyn, New York in the 1970s by Malachi Z, York, the Nuwaubians are a tribe compilation of religious teachings, tribal and fraternal organizations and cultural practices that is versatile and forever changing.
The Nuwaubian Tribe is composed of borrowed ideas from various religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Sufism, Islam, Egyptian religions, African tribal religions, Masons etc. Malachi York, or the “Supreme Grand Master” claims to be extraterrestrial being from the planet Rizq of the 19th Galaxy of Illyum. The Nuwaubians came to establish Lodge 19 of Ancient Mystic Order of Malachizodok in Eatonton, Georgia in 1994 when he moved from New York. The 2003 CIS Masonic Reporter stated that the group came to arrive in Eatonton because of their attraction to a Native American ancient rock eagle formation at Rock Eagle State Park. Lodge 19 s major attractions were extensively built pyramids, temples and living headquarters.
In 2002, Suspicions of alleged child molestation and racketeering incidents at Lodge 19 led to the arrest of York. York was arrested and convicted with over a hundred counts of sexually molesting children and engaging in other criminal acts. He was sentenced to over 135 years in prison.
All though the Nuwaubian Tribe is only only one example of various other large sects or cults, history shows that such orginizations have a way of manipulating and controling what people think and believe. Ironically, these orginizations are formed around some type of religion, however, the immoral acts of sexual and physical abuse depict no moral conduct or religious values.

DEBRA'S STORY

According to Breastcancer.org, "Ductal Carcinoma In Situ is the most common type of non-invasive breast cancer. Ductal means that the cancer starts inside the milk ducts, carcinoma refers to any cancer that begins in the skin or other tissues (including breast tissue) that cover or line the internal organs, and in situ means "in its original place."

Although the effects of DCIS aren't considered to be life-threatening, this disease definitely changed the life of one woman forever...

Fifty-seven year old, Debra Shorall (a false name given for the sake of privacy) was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) on July 18, 2006. “Honestly, I was shocked,” Mrs. Shorall stated. “I had been receiving mammograms regularly and nothing ever came up! The day that my doctor gave me the news, I literally hit the floor. All I kept thinking was, ‘How did this happen to me?’”

Like Mrs. Shorall, many women believe that they are invincible to the diagnosis of breast cancer, but it can happen to anyone. The American Cancer Society has reported that about 60,000 cases of DCIS are diagnosed in the United States each year, accounting for about 1 out of every 5 new breast cancer cases. When you have had DCIS, you are at higher risk for the cancer coming back or for developing a new breast cancer than a person who has never had breast cancer before.

Happily to say, as of May 30, 2009, Debra Shorall is a cancer-free patient and is an avid philanthropist and contributor of the American Cancer Society. “I encourage all women to get annual mammograms and I encourage those who are dealing with breast cancer to remain strong. You are not in this fight alone and I am here for you.”

IS FUNDING WITH FORCE REALLY IN THE INTEREST OF STUDENTS?

Being that I am apart of a very familiar organization on Fort Valley Campus I take it as a insult and a act of stupidity. In all honesty, I feel that there is no reason for organizations to have different functions when the school feels they should take .99 cents from our dollar. I feel that every organization is entitled to raising there own money and should give a portion to the facility they host their event in, but should not be responsible for being a "unknown" sponsor to their school. In many ways students are taken advantage of by their colleges. And, if the problem is not addressed I feel they seem to think it's okay and nobody has a issue with it. I think that as being personally affected by the financial aid procedure by taking funds from the organization I think it's horrible. And, how can they expect students to take pride in their school and organizations when in some way or another they are being robbed.

Think Pink

Be aware of breast cancer ladies and gentlemen. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the month to think pink. Supporters of breast cancer awareness are celebrating 25 years of awareness, education, and empowerment as reported on the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) official website.
Breast cancer is the second most common disease in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society; one out of eight women will be diagnosed with some type of breast cancer during their life. White women are more likely to get breast cancer than any other ethnic or racial group, according to Susan G. Komen hotline (1-877 GO KOMEN or 1-877-465-6636), but African American women are more likely to die. Be mindful that breast cancer is not a disease only found in women, men can be diagnosed with the disease as well even though it is rare. Less than one of every 100 cases of breast cancer in the U.S. occurs in men.
We must think of our health as a priority no matter how young we are. Some measures that can be taken to reduce the risks of being diagnosed are: eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly and limiting alcohol intake. Remember to take the initiative to check for lumps every month and get regular mammograms from your doctor usually every 1-2 years.

Be a supporter of breast cancer awareness every day, not just in the month of October. Are you thinking pink this month?

I think most people join Fraternities, that are some type of cult just for popularity, because they want to be apart of a something they feel would give them a sense of power and they don't even know the danger that they could be facing. Most people, think that being apart of these particular groups, give them the power to be something very special and at the end of some point they have a very special price to pay that could some time cause them there life and believe it or not some people would do just about anything just to seek power and fame even if it cause them their lives. Their are so many people in the world today that get up on worldly and material things today that they sometimes don't even know what danger they are putting themselves in.

Belonging

With it being the 30th year anniversary of Jamestown Massacre questions still are being asked about this subject. The Jamestown Massacre is when spiritual leader Jim Jones the leader of the People’s Temple cult lead over the mass suicide of over 900 members of People’s Temple cult.
Also with the recent death of three people at the attendance of a spiritual warrior program at an Arizona resort one has to question what are the real purpose of these groups. Many believe these groups are sects.
A sect is any group, party, or faction united by a specific doctrine or under a doctrinal leader. People believe that people join these groups for a sense of belonging. Some also believe many the people after joining are brainwashed.
So I was wondering does anybody feel as though some of the organizations on college campuses for example fraternities, sororities, football team act in this demeanor?

Auxiliary Services Issues

Auxiliary Services has a policy in place. According to Donald Moore, Director of Auxiliary Services, campus organizations that are hosting events on campus and selling tickets must use Auxiliary Services to print out tickets. Here's the catch, Auxiliary Services will charge $1.50 per ticket that is sold by the organization. Is this fair or is it robbery? What do you think?

The Nuwabian Tribes tricks of the trade

Some may know the story of Malachi York and the Nuwabian Tribe. If not, I’ll be happy to tell it. The story is about how former Black Panther member, Malachi York, who founded the Nuwabian Islamic Hebrew tribe in Brooklyn, New York in the mid 1970’s entered a guilty plea to state charges, comprising 40 counts of aggravated child molestation, 34 counts of child molestation, one count of sexual exploitation, two counts of witness tampering (77 charges in total) on January 24, 2003. Then on November 18, 2004, York was sentenced to 135 years in prison for molestation of boys and girls whose parents were members of the Nuwabian Tribe. The judge also ordered that York’s 476-acre compound in Eatonton, Georgia be released to the United State Government.
York’s sect incorporates the religions of Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Egyptian religion, African tribal religions, the New Age Movement, UFOlogy, Tomothy Drew's Moorish Science Temple in America, and Prince Hall Freemasonry. York is currently being detained in Florence ADMAX, which is said to be the most dangerous prison in the United States. Now that York is in prison, many members of the Nuwabian Tribe are trying their hardest to have York released. Recently on Labor Day of this year, Nuwabian members in Toronto, Canada held a protest to release York mainly because he suffers from Acute Angioedema, which increases adrenaline, perspiration that causes heart failure.
Since a lot of people of the Nuwabian Tribe wants York to be free, I mainly question, what is so great about York and what are the beliefs of the Nuwabian tribe? The only thing that I found out is that they believe that Jesus was born June 26, A.D. 7 and died in A.D. 127 at the age of 120 in Egypt; Jesus, Mary, the disciples, and all other New Testament figures were black, and that the Angel Gabriel is Jesus’s father. Also, York claims that The New Testament was written by the Jewish writer Flavius Josephus and his sons, and that The King James Version of the Bible was written by William Shakespeare. When I read this I could not believe it. All these beliefs of York and the Nuwabian Tribe is very interesting. How can people join this phony religion? It seems that today, people will believe in anything. This cult even has public figures such as Wesley Snipes, Doug E. Fresh, De La Soul, Jim Jones, etc. as members. Since I am on the topic of celebrities who are affiliated with this cult, I do think that Erykah Badu is a member as well. On her recent album, (which I brought), “New AmErykah, Pt. One: 4th World War Lyrics” she has a song titled “Master Teacher” I found this quite interesting for the fact that Master Teacher is one of Malachi York’s many names, a name that he can be referred to. In the chorus it says, “What if there were no n***** only Master Teachers, I stay woke” it seems like she is saying that the only person she can pay attention to is her Master Teacher and nobody else.
With some celebrities being members of this cult they can influence others especially the younger fans to join their sect. Celebrities are not the only way to obtain new members of the Nuwabian Tribe, Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace has helped as well to increase this cult’s membership. What I don’t understand is how people are still joining this cult when the leader of it is still in jail for molestation of children, sex exploitation, and witness tampering? Being on these websites allows the Nuwabian Tribe to find members who are interested in their sect. Most young people want to belong to something and this cult knows that and preys on that insecurity. The young generation should not join a cult that celebrites join or what their friends are apart of on Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace. Hopefully the younger generation does not become easily lead by this phony religion and can see past the fakeness that this cult is trying to present them with.
